"Inner conflict is the conflict between being safe and unfulfilled, and fulfilled and scared shitless." — Michael Hauge

I think the 2nd ‘and’ should be ‘or’.

So this is a dichotomy between safe and scared, fulfilled or not. But there are two other options he left out, ‘scared and unfulfilled’ and ‘safe and fulfilled’. Isn’t a conflict between these two states also an internal struggle? In fact, aren’t these two choices the primary struggle for all people who aren’t in a vegetative state? Perhaps he’s saying inner conflict is choosing to run from safety in an effort to secure a more fulfilling life, or wimping out and being safely miserable. I don’t see how the latter could lead to an interesting bit of fiction, but I have an open mind and I’m prepared to be pleasantly surprised…
